So many things to do in Ontario, this is a resource of some of “What I have found” useful.
Boating
Kayak, canoe, “Tinnie” (small outboard), boats or yachts, your call on what you would like to do and see.
Canoes, I have done lots but am not an expert so I will pass you off to the companies I like, the places to paddle and the history.
- Canoe Museum – an interesting stop with lots of history
- Swift Canoes – made in Ontario
- Algonquin paddling
- Holy Cow Canoes
- etc
Tinnies
Those small boats often with just a 9.9hp motor are great for a day (or more) out fishing and can be found at resorts or purchased for yourself.
Legend boats a small, medium size Ontario boat manufacturer
Fishing
So many locations and types of fish and ways to fish in Ontario. In January you can ice fish, in the warmer months fly fish, troll, cast and so many types of fish!
First, you will need a license
Fly fishing? You may like the Izaak Walton Fly Fishing Club
Fishing gear actually MADE in Canada, I always try to buy the lures made here for my fishing!
- Len Thompson spoons
- Williams Spoons
- Anglers Choice
- Hangbelly lures
- Others out there, just haven’t bought them…
If I don’t have’em I haven’t found them 🙂 If I get some strong recommendations I can add a found but not tried list I guess, but they HAVE to be made local (Canada atlest), not a Chinese made “Canadian” company!
Scuba
Tobermory and the Fathom Five are world renowned places for diving but there are more choices.
Snowmobiling
To Be Added, I’ve done downhill in Ontario but much more Cross Country skiing … more later, likely
Skiing
To Be Added … likely
Hunting
The firearm and hunting rules are complicated and can get you into trouble so make sure you understand them or you can rely on a guiding service. See comments and resources on Canada firearms in the Canada page.
Then look for guides etc.
